Asplenium australasicum (Birdsnest) can be epiphytic, lythophytic or a terrestrial fern. Its leaves are large, green and glossy, forming a crown from the centre of the plant. Can grow to a hight of 1.6m and have a 3.6m wide crown. The culture that is chosen to grow birdsnests in, will greatly influence the growth habit and size.
The plant is presented in a half basket, in the size matching the option selected. Half Baskets: Wire frame basket with coconut liner attached to a round tree fern mount including hook, suitable for hanging. The hook is galvanised wire. Available in sizes of approximately 100mm, 125mm, 150mm, 200mm, and 250mm - where the size is the width of the basket. The diameter of the mount is about 100mm larger than the width of the basket for each size.
Water every second day in warmer months, when needed in cooler months. Feed during growth. Ferns need to be re-potted when they have out grown their pot. The best time to re-pot them is when they are dormant. Keep in 50% - 75% shade (e.g. morning sun). Provide protection from snails and slugs.
