Description

On offer here is the Australian Native Sarcochilus Species Orchid, S. aequalis ‘Cream Brown Spot Comboyne’ x ‘Cream Brown Spot Dinalls Creek’ established in a 68mm tube.

Once known as the “southern S. hartmannii”, this species readily grows into a clump, producing an abundance of blooms on a compact plant. The seedling on offer here is an outcross between two Cream forms with brown spots. Whilst the flower form isn’t as full as the more common S. hartmannii, S. aequalis has recently been looked to for new colour infusions by hybridisers. Some believe that this species holds the key to producing BLUE Sarcochilus hybrids, and certainly with this form, solid chocolate browns are a real possibility. One for the species collector and breeder alike!

The photographs show an example of the plants on offer, as well as flower images indicative of the parents. There are also photographs of the first of these to flower for us while still in a 68mm tube!
